Here are some suggestions to get you started in the world of online learning. The following is an eclectic variety of sites that I have enjoyed and which I hope you will find stimulating. In no particular order, here they are for you.
Founded by Harvard University and MIT in 2012 and with more than 130 global partners, edX is an online learning destination and MOOC provider offering high-quality courses from the world’s best universities and institutions to learners everywhere.
Khan Academy’s mission is to ‘provide a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere’.
More free courses…The Open University offers some interesting courses, as do the Ivy League universities
Though not actually courses as such, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offer the materials of their courses online for free. These often include videos and audios of the lectures. There are some brilliant gems among the videos from famous professors.
A number of UK universities offer distance learning courses, detail of which are here, including some from Cambridge University which you can browse here – prices per course.
The Skills Network has a stack of more vocational courses which are very interesting
Lynda.com offers a huge range of courses for a single monthly subscription
For more ad hoc ideas of things to do, how about Instructables? This site offers instructions for how to make or do an incredible range of interesting projects. Essentially a recipe site for making anything from glass speakers through to Cheese Ball Checkers. Just ask the question!
